On February 12, a 5th Grade Touchstones class sent the message below to Paul Salopek after reading his Dispatch called “Minaret Dreams” at www.outofedenwalk.nationalgeographic.com and received this reply from Paul. St. Martin’s was the first school Paul Salopek spoke to about his walk around the world in the footsteps of our human ancestors. He is into the second year of a seven-year trek. He is presently in the Caucasus Mountains.
Good morning, Paul, from the 5th grade at St. Martin’s-in-the-Field in Maryland. We want to say hi to the children in the village of Karacaoren, Turkey. How was the sledding? We wish we could have some hot tea. We wish the children Happy Valentine’s Day.
Paul took the photograph. It shows his two walking companions, Murat Yazar (right) and Mustafa Filiz, and the mule Kirkatir, in the Caucasus mountain range.
